Update
26th September 2014

This evening the South Wales Evening Post have run an article regarding the Elba ground rent dispute with the headline "Elba ground rent hike U-turn by Swansea Council".  This article quotes Council Leader, Rob Stewart, as saying "We will now be offering an alternative amount that's both far more affordable for residents and meets our needs as the owner of the estate's freehold interest.

We'll also be giving the estate's residents and leaseholders the chance to buy the freehold of their premises based on our revised assessments".

No actual figures were provided in the article and neither have any been given to the Action Group.

Although, the Action Group anticipated that alternative figures would be discussed at the forthcoming meeting with Council representatives on the 1st October it was not informed in advance of the content of tonight's Evening Post article.

Moreover, whilst the story is in principle good news, it would be premature to claim victory until such time as we have seen the Council's reduced ground rent proposals and discussed them with our legal advisors.

Should residents receive any correspondence from the Council containing revised proposals then we would urge them to contact the Action Group before responding.  It is imperative that we respond to any revised proposals collectively to maintain a stronger bargaining position and ensure fairness and parity across the estate.

Chair of the Elba Action Group
